About

My name is Mary Beth Martin. I'm a city girl who moved to Ashland, KS, a town smaller than anything I've ever been used to before. I've purchased a house, made it my own, and settled in:

I teach high school students all about literature, writing, and forensics. I'm also one of those sickening people who can't stop talking about how much she loves her job--and I mean it! It's a learning process, though, as this is my first year of teaching, and on this blog you'll find many anecdotes about the teaching process, failures, and (hopefully) successes.

I've fallen in love with the teaching profession, and I even don't mind the extensive grading and planning. Watching the excitement in students' eyes when I tell them about an upcoming project, speaking into their hearts and lives, and broadening their perspectives is such an incredible reward.

Never one for school spirit in high school, I didn't realize how much it would explode when I got here. Football, the all-school play, forensics, volleyball, basketball, scholars bowl . . . I could go on and on. Chances are you'll see me, the crazy new teacher, at a school event, jumping and yelling for those kids.

I adore most things that involve words, pictures, and music. I love creating those things AND reading/watching/listening to those things created by others. A bike riding fan, I can often be found cycling around the town to various events. I can be a little shy, but I'm slowly making friends here and finding surprising connections back home all the time.

If you're looking for a snarky blogger, you might have to look elsewhere! I don't shy away from gross or inappropriate stuff, but bitter and jaded I am not! I love my life and my job, and I love sharing it with you!
