Broken

So, something broke in the moving process.

It might have gotten crushed as boxes were piled in and out of the moving van. Or it might have been smashed to pieces with a hammer by a furious woman in 100 degree heat.

It's anyone's guess.

Don't Fall Off the Countertop

Today was a day. Neither good, nor bad.

Highlights of the day included closing on my home, setting up all of my bills and accounts, and organizing different areas of the house.

Downsides of the day included some unsettling news, getting super frustrated at some stuck nails, and realizing that I live alone and will have to be extra careful when I decide to crouch on my kitchen counter-tops because if I fall and break my back then I will just have to pray that a neighbor walks into my home and finds me before I die of starvation.

Cheery, huh?

Tomorrow I have more errands to run. Though my parents and I just took a trip up to Dodge yesterday, I get to make another trip to get my internet hooked up. Don't ask me why it works that way--it just does.

I saw Inception on Friday. You might think that I would write a review. I understand. But I won't be writing a review. Why? Here's my review:

Awesome.

And not in the colloquial way that we use that word today. I literally mean that it was an awe-inspiring movie. And that's all you need to know from me about it.

There are many pictures from moving day, and I even have a movie with a previous little boy wearing my favorite shoes. Those will be posted all in good time.

For the moment, however, I'm going to take my laptop out onto my porch and enjoy the cooler, evening air.

Goodnight.

Sorry, my friends

I've been trying to decide what to write.

Here are some things which may put my lack of posts into perspective:

1. Moving is a brain-frying experience.
2. Moving is also an exhausting experience.
3. When I have an entire house to organize and take care of, I have a decreased desire for the internet.
4. I'm dealing with some feelings that need to be processed before they spill out onto the page.

Stay tuned . . .

Close Call

I was musing to myself earlier today how quickly I seem to have recovered from a hard break-up.

Well, duh, life has a cruel sense of humor, so of course I had a sudden resurgence of anger.

And then God was like, "Mary Beth, here's a present for you. You like this song and now Youtube is going to recommend that you listen to it again."

And I did. Get over it. Thank you Pet Shop Boys. Thank you Youtube. Thanks Big Man.

In other news, I am so excited for Inception that I can barely contain it. I'm seeing it tomorrow at 6:45 and counting down the hours!

Just Being Honest

OK, ladies and gentlemen. We all know that blogging, by its nature, is a narcissistic act. The thought process basically goes: I'm going to write about myself, other people are going to read it, and their visits and comments will affirm just how worthwhile I am and my dribblings are.

Well, I definitely don't believe all my dribblings are worthwhile, so here is one that you can just chalk up to completely worthless.

But honest. Yes, people, very honest.

So, you've just seen a movie or a TV show that you found particularly funny/moving/interesting/inspiring. And most of it was because of one person. One actor/star/personality. Maybe you've heard of or seen this person before, maybe you haven't. Either way, you're suddenly fascinated.

Come on. Admit it. You know what I'm talking about.

And maybe, just maybe you've gone to www.imdb.com to look this person up and find the other works on his/her resume. Then you've started watching these works.

Or maybe you haven't.

Either way, if you're a savvy reader or someone who's been keeping up with me, you already know where this is headed. Man, you guys are so smart.

Bill Hader! Muah-hahahahaha. Oh how I love torturing you all with this.

But on a more serious note, while I have had my strange fixations before (and any of my friends can tell you that these fixations all focus on a singular body part: eyebrows), only once before this have I very actively sought out the work of a former fixation. And for your information, I have now seen more Elijah Wood films than I ever should have. But I think this fixation is stronger because of my love of comedy and studying it, especially the films that are at the current leading edge of comedy, because if you take a look at that leading edge, Hader is somehow attached to everything. The man can't be stopped.

Seriously. Will Forte and Andy Samberg have nothing on him. He is the next male breakout star from SNL. Just wait and see.

And by the way, judge all you want. You may think he is odd-looking, and perhaps he is. Will Forte is quite handsome and plays great, out-there characters. Jason Sudeikis is also handsome and plays a straight-man better than (almost) anyone on SNL. But when you look at Hader and see that he can excellently play the straight-man and the manic, crazy characters, then he takes the cake. Talent, talent.

Anyway, all of that dribble was to say that this led me to watch a movie called Adventureland. Holy cow. I was not expecting that movie to be that good. You'll get a review later, trust me, but let me just say that I was expecting to laugh out loud. It actually didn't happen that much. I did however, find myself touched and thoughtful afterward, which is much more rewarding.

It's always nice when movies surprise you.

So. Now you've been tortured. Let's see how much longer I can hold off from mentioning Mr. Eyebrows again.

New Review Up!

Check out my new review for Twilight: Eclipse here.

Also, I'll admit it. Though the movie is overwrought and very ridiculous in many ways, I still love the soundtrack. Especially because Florence + The Machine is included. Please, please, take a listen to her. And a watch.

"Heavy in Your Arms"

"Cosmic Love"

I love this woman's voice and the power she puts into her music. She is well worth a listen or two. Or three thousand.

A Nice Night

I saw this off of my back porch this evening.

If I ever leave the Midwest, I'm really going to miss this sort of thing.

Also, I did a bit of binge shopping at Wal-Mart the other night. Yes, a lot of it was necessary (supplies for my students, some toiletries), but some of it wasn't (super expensive toothpaste and a sun dress). Well, I realized that perhaps the extra spending was a little rash, so I pulled together some things to return. I had purchased the sun dress, a Batman t-shirt, and four dress shirts for school. On clearance at $3.50 each, I was more than glad to get dress shirts from Wal-Mart. I decided to return one of the dress shirts, and then it came down to the sun dress or the t-shirt.

Duh, you already saw where this was going.

Dear reader, you're so smart.

I kept the t-shirt. Come ON! Batman! I don't buy clothes very often, so now my Star Wars shirt has a companion. Now all I need is a Doctor Who shirt, a Buffy shirt, and a Firefly shirt. I like these:

Oh, and I added some Star Wars and Big Bang Theory shirts as well.

I'm still looking for someone to play Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock with me!
